The Story
Joe Dydek, the VP of Supply Chain at Power Design, Inc. (PDI), had a vision to take PDI to the next level in procurement. He noticed that many large-scale trade contractors don’t have centralized procurement and don't use data to help create or align processes. At one point, this included PDI which is a billion-dollar plus multi-faceted contractor.
Ordering materials at PDI was like shooting from the hip. They had a team of project managers who owned the procurement operations of their assigned projects. But in scenarios where they needed material for a job that wasn’t listed on the original Bill of Materials (BOM), they would simply text a distributor or even write the parts they needed on the back of a napkin and send them a photo.
PDI works on 300+ projects with hundreds of different suppliers. Project managers' methods of purchasing material created scattered, chaotic, and untraceable procurement data. Joe saw these processes and knew that maintaining the status quo would prevent him from seeing the bigger picture.
He also knew they needed to centralize their procurement, the question was how?
The Solution
Joe and the PDI team chose Kojo to help them create their vision. Field teams ordering and receiving materials on time and on budget is critical to the process. The power and autonomy Kojo gives to the field team was ultimately a huge selling point. Field crews use the Kojo mobile app on their tablet or phone to request what parts they need and by when.
The transparency this creates with the centralized purchasing team and their suppliers expedites the entire procurement process. Nothing is lost in communication, Field teams are getting the right materials to the jobsite faster and PDI’s buying power is leveraged more effectively.
Kojo has allowed Joe to make more strategic decisions regarding the contractor’s overall supply chain. Questions like which suppliers to work with, which teams are underperforming, and how long it takes for materials to arrive on site could now be answered in a click.
The automation of tedious processes and having a source of truth when it comes to materials management is also what has empowered PDI to grow in a way that is scalable. Kojo has now become a critical component of PDI’s day-today operations and continued growth.
