The Story
Since its founding, MK Electric & Design Inc. has been a shining example of what consistent and quality electrical work should look like. But that didn’t mean the team was free of pain points. When Adam Kirkes was brought on as the purchasing administrator, he saw a lot of constraints at the company. The biggest of these constraints was handling material requests from the field. The old standard of sending written notes, texting, and playing phone tag for material requests was causing a large bottleneck. In addition, because each material could go by several different names, some back-and-forths were almost unavoidable for Adam to order the correct parts. These constant, simple misunderstandings or clarifications slowed the procurement process. At first, MK Electric & Design Inc. searched for materials management software and opted for what seemed like a less expensive solution when compared to Kojo. Adam and the leadership team liked that their material requests and materials management process were digitized. The problem they faced was getting the field team to adopt the software. The field team experience was clunky and disliked by the team. What was supposed to be a solution to expedite the material purchasing process quickly became a bottleneck in and of itself.
The Solution
Mark Kirkes, founder of MK Electric & Design Inc. and former chairman of his local ABC chapter’s board, connected with the ABC national board’s IT alliance and met Kojo representatives at an ABC convention where he was a speaker. When he brought up Kojo in a meeting with his industry peers, he received the validation he needed to proceed. He saw that electrical companies in other states were using Kojo with great results: seamless integration, fast adoption by field teams, and strong support from the entire team.
Kojo stood out because of its ability to efficiently manage the wide range of materials that electrical contractors need. The platform allows field teams to search for materials using familiar names, paired with images to confirm the correct part before submitting a request to the office. MK Electric & Design Inc. has also benefited from Kojo's straightforward onboarding materials, in-person training, and the consistent support of its customer success team. MK Electric & Design Inc. now enjoys a smoother, more efficient procurement process from the field to the office.
